ddpstudio is appointed to design the London Ferrari Store windows in Regent Street during the Olympic Games 2012.
The creative inspiration aims to create a clear reference to athletic sports without using any Olympic symbols and at the same time encompass the spirit of the Games, Puma Motorsport and Ferrari.
The four windows are devised as a unique space, the London skyline and an unfolding athletics track creating the background for a new set design.
The E. Muybridge motion study is the inspiration for the central window display. After several tests carried out at the ddpstudio office in Italy, the technical solution lies in building two huge vertical zoetropes.
A hurdle runner and Ferrari piston drawings are mounted on two aluminium discs, screwed on to an electronic-controlled motor that guarantees a continuous and precise rotational movement. A strobe light is placed on the floor in order to hit the discs and give the illusion of movement to the human eye.
